THE 3D ACCENTUATION of the new generation of pedestrian crossings involves a simple modification to the V7 (ZEBRA) road marking without the necessity of structural modifications. The combination of the suitably selected shapes and red shades leads to the establishment of a spatial optical (3D) illusion of an obstacle on the otherwise flat carriageway. The drivers of the approaching vehicles perceive this obstacle as being real and slow their vehicles. This leads to the slowing down of the traffic and increased safety for the pedestrians on the crossing.
